Acute

When used in relation to medicine and stress acute can mean a sudden or rapid onset, or a short course or time period.

A person who is said to be suffering from acute stress will be suddenly overcome by feelings of weariness and exhaustion, or he will experience feelings of stress for a short period of time.

Acute does not mean severe, thought many imagine this is the meaning the term conveys.

Some one who experiences acute stress will be affected by symptoms of shivering, cold sweats, rapid or shallow breathing, nausea, and dizziness. These and other signs are clear indicators of short term or acute stress

If a person is diagnosed with this problem, he may get the needed help before the acute state of stress is changed into a chronic one. When suffering from chronic stress a person will face all kinds of problems ranging from insomnia to major health ailments.

What are some ways to combat acute stress? Medication may help to a limited extent, but it is wrong to rely totally on pills, especially when there are other natural health treatments available. Some of them can be a cold ice pack to do away with those painful headaches, herbal teas, lots of water and fluids and a proper diet
