Acute When used in relation to medicine and stress acute can mean a sudden or rapid onset, or a short course or time period. A person who is said to be suffering from acute stress will be suddenly overcome by feelings of weariness and exhaustion, or he will experience feelings of stress for a short period of time. Acute does not mean severe, thought many imagine this is the meaning the term conveys. Some one who experiences acute stress will be affected by symptoms of shivering, cold sweats, rapid or shallow breathing, nausea, and dizziness. When suffering from chronic stress a person will face all kinds of problems ranging from insomnia to major health ailments. What are some ways to combat acute stress?
