Battered women syndrome Better Women Syndrome is also called as battered person syndrome. This term has been said to have coined by a psychologist known as Lenore Walker. It refers to a term that is used to explain a situation where a person after experiencing years of physical and emotional abuse opts to kill the subject of abuse finding no way out. It was first proposed in 1970s. This syndrome is justified and even many courts also accept such behaviors. But many psychologists share the view that there is no psychological evidence for such syndrome. Even those who acknowledge the existence of this syndrome opine that there is no reliable means to identify the victims of this syndrome. Some may use it as a mere legal defense. This syndrome is simply a product of legal advocacy and not science. Since it lacks an established, empirical and scientifical basis, it is no longer popular. For more terms click here. |
