Deep Muscle Relaxation Techniques Deep muscle relaxation techniques are simple forms of progressive muscle relaxation. These techniques can be mastered with proper practice. Deep muscle relaxation does not involve tensing and then relaxing. It involves only relaxing each group of muscles. In this method, the practitioner quickly relaxes her whole body right from head to toe. Another major difference between deep muscle relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation is the former can be achieved in few seconds. It will take several minutes to achieve progressive muscle relaxation. The relaxation techniques for deep muscle relaxation are similar to progressive muscle relaxation. Both require a serene environment. The practitioner should be in a relaxed position. In DMR, the practitioner skips the step of tensing the muscles. Instead he directly relaxes the muscles for fewer minutes. As with PMR, DMR also involves relaxing each set of muscles in different parts of the body. This technique improves the well-being of the overall body muscles and mind. For more terms click here. |
